Ashton Gate was built circa 1880 by Mr AW Birchall, who became the owner of Australia’s oldest bookshop. It remained the Birchall family home until the mid 1920’s and first became a guest house after World War II. Overlooking the magnificent oak trees of St Georges Square, Ashton Gate is just a short walk to Launceston’s city centre, many fine restaurants and attractions.
